Our Velma has received the 2008 Tori Caeti Young Scholar Award from the Juvenile Justice Section of ACJS! "The award is intended to recognize young scholars who have made significant contributions to the field of juvenile justice." I was initially on the selection committee but bowed out when I saw she was one of the nominees.
Congratulations, superstar!

Outstanding! You truly deserve it, so you get a big CONGRATS!
Woo Hoo! All of us already know how much you rock -- good to see that others recognize it, too!! : )
Congrats!!! I can finally say that I knew you "when"...
Great job, Velma! Two awards in the last three conferences...what a rockstar!
Though in all candor, she does have a leg up with Jason as a husband. He's a frickin' case study in juvenile delinquency, even though he's no longer technically a juvenile.
Good job Velma! You continue to set the bar (not SIT at the bar, but SET the bar).
"Young scholars who have made significant contributions to the field of juvenile justice" does bring to mind an ancient Saturday Night Live sketch in which Laraine Newman portrays a six year old child psychologist, suggesting that, as a child, she is best suited to understand children. Of course, that reference may be too old for you youngsters, but so it goes. Congrats from me as well.
Thanks guys! I really don't think I would have made it out of grad school (much less get awards) without y'all. Thanks for all of your support. I wish we could all start a new department of cool Spartans (and friends) and work together again.
You're amazing, Betharoo. I don't know how you do it. We're so proud of you.
