Pap & Patch's Book!!

Exciting news: Pap & Patch's first book, "Bullying Beyond the Schoolyard: Preventing and Responding to Cyberbullying," will be available beginning August 5th!

Here's what the publisher has to say about this book:
Cyberbullying is the intentional and repeated act of causing harm to others through the use of computers, cell phones, and other electronic devices. The authors help educators understand the potential consequences of this deliberate behavior and present strategies for effective identification, prevention, and response.

Focusing on the way technology can facilitate or magnify bullying behavior, this comprehensive resource offers information, guidelines, and resources to give students the protection they need. Written by leading experts, this groundbreaking book offers the voices of youth affected by or involved in real cyberbullying incidents and includes:

  • Illustrations of what cyberbullying looks like
  • Tips for identifying cyberbullies or targets
  • "Breakout boxes" highlighting hundreds of anti-cyberbullying strategies
  • A review of current research and legal rulings
  • Strategies for responsible social networking
  • Follow-up reflection questions in each chapter
  • Guidelines for working with parents and law enforcement
"Bullying Beyond the Schoolyard" is available for pre-ordering on Amazon here.

Congrats to Pap and Patch!!

Congrats fellas! What a great accomplishment. We're all just honored to be able to say we knew you back when.

And Patch, because I know you are an honorable and generous guy, I'll go ahead and proactively accept your offer to buy drinks all night at MCJA this year. We can spend your first (of many) royalty checks! I'll start warming up my liver tonight (or maybe later this morning...after all, I'm at work today!).

pretty impressive! Now you both can say you are the author of several books.

I hope you go crazy and have an extra cup of chocolate milk or something like that. Wait - send me Jill cookies and I will celebrate for you.

Thanks for the kudos. Pap and I will be posting future tidbits here about what we learned throughout this process. Since this isn't an academic book, it was much different than our previous experiences with publishing...

Hey guys,
I wanted to make you aware of a project that was launched recently that can definitely facilitate the end of cyber-bullying. It's called the Humanbook Project. Basically people are verified through their connections and their associations and if people within many groups do not verify who and individual is then that person is flagged and pulled out of the group.
Like wiki, the more people that are in the system the more powerful and accurate it becomes. Ultimately no one will be able to make false identities because that false identity will not have real connections and they cannot duplicate identities because the true holder will be able to flag it or deny false connections. If you could help the project by passing along the word, we need people to become involved.

Here is where people can help: humanbook.com

I have two daughters that are in middle school. All of their friends are on myspace and facebook. I have to admit I'm really scared for their well-being with all of this cyber-bullying stuff going on. With that said. I checked the humanbook site that v-monkey posted. Although I am still skeptical, this site seems like a safe bet, and a step forward for social networking sites.

oh ratpacker. i too have children of the school going age, and they too have many friends that live and dwell on their beloved facebook and myspace. however, i have banned internet use in my house! and i feel that it is the most affective way! i checked out the viral monkey's humanbook.com and i honestly feel like it has some potential but i wont let my children on it until they have reached a more mature age. i see that site as one for the 23+ adult age range.

we need more sites like humanbook that monitor and prevent cyberbullying, it is getting way out of hand now that facebook and myspace are getting so popular.
