Totally Unshocking Crime Headlines, Vol. 11

What?!?!!!! [*clutches chest, keels over*]

Ahem. From the article:
WASHINGTON — A new audit concludes that rookie attorneys with Republican roots got interviewed for plum Justice Department jobs while their liberal-leaning counterparts got passed over...

Improper use of the screening program peaked in 2006, when politics and ideology disqualified what the audit called a significant number of newly graduated lawyers and summer interns seeking jobs.

The long-awaited report confirms widespread criticism last year that the once fiercely independent Justice Department was victim to political meddling by the Bush administration. The scandal led to the resignation last September of former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales.
While I'm on the subject, check out this fascinating Daily Show interview with David Iglesias, one of the U.S. Attorneys fired by the Bush administration:

P.S. The NY Times has a similar article about this report here.

This is the sillest set of stories going. Since when is this new? Let me tell you about how many straight up political appointments are going on in low level jobs in massachusetts right now. Mrs. Scoob's has had FOUR forced hires in the last two years since the Cadillac of Governors was elected. Straight up forced - job notice, Governors office calls and says "You will hire this person" - as blatant as it gets. She never saw this happen in Michigan. Interestingly enough, there were never even rumors of political hires in Michigan when she worked for MSP - not even rumors. Also, never under two GOP governors. They fired nearly the entire Executive Office of Public Safety and Security when Obama Jr. came into office. Down to really low level folks. I have never seen anything like this. They are hiring more former ADA's and Former AG's in middle manager jobs as if they are growing on trees...

The US Attorney story is largely a joke. Billy Boy fired ALL the US attorney's, and only hired one back. Hum, noone balked at that. I wonder why.....Political lens must not have been focused then.
