Blogs that Make Me Laugh

Recently I've been introduced to a few blogs that really make me laugh. One is the "Blog" of "Unnecessary" Quotation Marks. What a great idea for a blog! I mean, who among us has not seen a hand-written (or, worse, professionally-designed) sign featuring words enclosed in completely arbitrary and unnecessary quotation marks and thought, "What were they thinking?!" Indeed, if the multitude of posts on this blog is any indication, the practice of improperly employing quotation marks on prominent signage has reached epidemic proportions.

Below are a few of the entries I especially enjoyed. First up, this terrific CJ-themed example (suitable for use in security classes, perhaps?):

The fact that the "Security Guard" appears to be snoozing on the job makes it even funnier (and almost justifies the use of quotation marks!).

Next up, my personal favorite:

Isn't that great? Obviously they are supposed to be rays of light, not quotation marks, but it's a whole lot funnier to imagine that this "church" is actually a speakeasy or, as the blog author suggests, a front for the mob. Hilarious.

I also stumbled upon the Cake Wrecks blog thanks to a recommendation from Jessica at Scatterplot, and I find it equally funny. Take a look at some of the photos there -- you just will not believe the crappy, horrible, hideous, monstrously ugly (professionally-decorated!) cakes that some people were forced to pay for. Entire birthday and wedding celebrations have been ruined by the presence of these truly awful cakes. It's funny because it didn't happen to you!

Finally, speaking of blogs, I submitted an idea for a post about "consumption as activism" to Sociological Images, and it was posted today! Woo hoo!

What blogs make you laugh? Feel free to share your suggestions in the comments!

I can't resist visiting the Fail Blog every day. My oldest really likes it too, but I have to censor it carefully...
