There is an interesting story in the Boston Herald today about the President's aunt who remains in the U.S. illegally. As many know, she has been living illegally in the country for several years now. Apparently, being ordered to leave the country in 2004 doesn't apply to those who know powerful people. It will be interesting to see if there is a sudden change of heart on her immigration status - that is, since she knows people in high places if she will be allowed to remain in the country. Since our new President has assurred the nation that it is a new era in politics, I feel comfortable that neither he nor any of his confederates would abuse their power by intervening. Granted, the new Secretary of the Tresury is a tax cheat but hey, the new day in politics started apparently after his nomination and ultimate approval.

I had forgotten about this story--thanks for the reminder. It will be entertaining to see how it is handled.
Gee, Scoob. This is really a rush to judgment.
Do you have any evidence that she has been granted special treatment? According to the story you sent, she did appeal her case--you and I both know how slowly the courts work.
Plus, how many other people are in the country illegally while appealing their decisions (or more appropriately, what's the average length of time an alien remains in the country after being asked to leave?).

My reread of my post is that it will be interesting to follow to see IF there is a change of heart. We shall see. It is quite intriguing that her immigration hearing magically reappeared after her nephew is voted in as President. Quite frankly, that could be a "right" tactic to embarrass him or a "left" tactic to compel action in a favorable direction. But this will be a good test to see if the values espoused are mere rhetoric or reality. More importantly, why have no national outlets even raised the issue again? That's right, a non-issue, I forgot. Sarah Palin's preg. daughter was apparently much more compelling news. Stay tuned!
You're right--I was the one who rushed to judgment. I was really thrown by the title and fully expected it to be anti-Obama.
I think I'm on edge about this--after eight years of the good 'ol boy network (it's not what you know, it's WHO you know), the right is now focusing on THIS as an example of special treatment?
Let's just say it's got me rankled.
As for Sarah Palin, this is one of my favorite clips from the Daily Show (at 4:20 if you want to fast forward).
